This Privacy Statement provides information on the privacy practices by the Virtual Consumer Research Group in the Department of Advertising at the University of Texas at Austin. These privacy practices are in compliance with the Institutional Review Board policies of the Office of Research at the University of Texas at Austin.

Specifically, the following principles are adopted for the privacy practice by the Virtual Consumer Research Group:

  • We do not use cookies to collect personally identifiable information.


  • On the Panel Registration page, participants have the option of providing their name, email address, and some demographic information. This personal information is only gathered by the Virtual Consumer Research Group with participants' expressed knowledge and consent. Panel members may be contacted periodically to take part in upcoming online studies. Participants' informed consent will always be obtained prior to their participation in these studies, and the information collected will adhere to this privacy policy.


  • All information provided by panel members is collected using secured server pages. Passwords that are provided by panel members are required to access posted studies and are stored as encrypted.


  • Personal and, in particular, contact information provided by panel members are NOT shared with other third parties. In addition, responses provided to studies are not stored together with contact information provided by panel members. When data analysis is performed on any study, that data is analyzed separately from any personal information. The sole purpose of keeping personal information is to maintain the panel, and to keep in contact with panel members.


  • By registering with the Virtual Consumer Research Group, panel members consent to the collection and use of information by the Virtual Consumer Research Group as specified above. If changes to our privacy policy are needed, we will post those changes on this page so that panel members are always aware of what information is collected and how it is used.
